• Question: Did you ever have any regrets about becoming a scientist or anything that was hard along the way?

      There is always some days that are harder but I’m happy where I am now so no regrets.

      If the aim is to be a scientist, the journey feels long. The general take is 3-4 years Bachelors + 2 years Masters + 3-10 years PhD depending on your research field. If the project you worked on is not application-specific, it is not easy to get an industry job after.

      Biggest perk: You learn a lot more than just science – better communication and people management skills. You do not get these very easily in other professions. You get to write and run your own projects and a flexible time-table.

      I have no regrets. Just more aware that This does not have to be done in one single stretch. You can do internships, gain certifications and earn between the full-time degrees.

      I do not have regrets, becoming a scientist was what I really wanted. This does not mean that it always has been easy. For example, it is difficult to balance the time spent for work and for other activities.

      There are good days and there are some bad days when working in the lab and in life. Things don’t work or experiments go wrong but at the end of the day, I’m still happy being a scientist and learning something new everyday.

      No regrets at all, I feel lucky to have found a career I enjoy.
