      Not as a PhD student (we are under the minimum wages) but after as a researcher I will make better money.

      I won’t tell you a number, but as a lecturer I earn enough money to pay a mortgage and go on holidays two times a year. For me, that’s all I need. If money was really important to me (but it is not), I would rather haven chosen to work in a company where I would very likely earn more money (but probably I would not like that work as much as my own).

      At the moment, no sadly! I’m still a student technically, working towards my PhD. What we get paid is a tax free salary (those of us lucky enough to have funding anyway!). The point of the PhD though is to get us to a point later in life where we have the opportunity to earn a lot more, while doing something we’re passionate about.

      Irrespective of the profession, it depends on how well you can save as well. I earn way more than enough money to buy all the fancy gadgets I need, to live life to the fullest, travel casually and most importantly, have time for the people I care about. I agree with the rest of the scientists here that it is a little challenging as a student, though absolutely worth it.

      PhD students don’t typically earn a lot of money, usually somewhere between 12,000 to 18,500 euro per year. It might seem like a lot but not when you are paying rent, bills etc. Its less than minimum wage too! So definitely doing a PhD is only if it is your passion. But there are many routes to go and in academia, as my colleagues have mentioned, you can earn more than enough to live a good life. In industry, the money can be a lot more!

      Not really in this stage of PhD since we are receiving minimum wages, as Vincent mentioned. However, we hope that in future stages as researcher after obtaining the PhD, we’ll improve these conditions.
