I really liked the idea, and sometimes practice, that what we do as cancer researchers can make a difference in peoples lives. Even if its only that someone builds on my discovery and that helps people, ultimately the work is improving peoples lives.
And so many people have cancer, or almost everyone is touched in their family by cancer somewhere, that the more we know, the better the treatments and the longer people will live.
From a molecular biology perspective, what cancer does tells us a lot about how normal cells work as well- which is amazing!
