      What a great question !
I realize it after a series of internships where I was directly involved in a project, with the daily life of a scientist. You just have to experiment what is the daily life of a particular job to know if it’s the one for you or not.

I liked working as a scientist from the start (end of my studies), then the only remaining question was if I would stay at a university/research institute or work as a scientist at a company. I tried the first and it worked out, luckily.

Sometimes I feel the profession picked me.

It was trial and error. I explored several fields (…which is the coolest part of being in science! One can spend a lifetime learning new exhilarating topics) and settle for the one I can relate to the most.

Probably after my first semester of studying science in college. I just loved what I was learning in lectures and in labs.

I liked science for many years. I started to realize that this was for me some years before going to College but especially when starting to see the actual research in the college years, doing internships and after finishing the degree.

I found it really difficult in college to decide on a path as I knew there was more stability in terms of getting a permanent job and potentially a lot more money in industry. So when I saw the opportunities to take up internships where I got to “try out” being a research scientist, I jumped at them! Having the opportunity to try it out first really helped me see that I was good at it and I enjoyed it.
