      That’s a legitimate and great question !
      Rocks are the archives of Earth past, so if you want to know how a mountain have formed, at what frequency erupt a volcano, how a natural resource that we need for new technology has been formed, rocks are the thing to study.
      If you know how often a volcano erupt you can predict when will be the next one and warn the local population for example so rocks can save lives.
      To produce your phone, your computer or solar panels for renewable energy we need some specific chemicals that are found only in rocks and that are sometimes more expensive than gold or diamond. Knowing how that rock have been formed will allow us to predict where a mine can be set up and how much of the resource we can hope to extract.
